MONDAY OF THE 34TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

22ND NOVEMBER 2021

Memorial of Saint Cecilia, Virgin and Martyr

OUR HEART IS THE FIRST OFFERING TO GOD

In the Gospel, Jesus appreciates the offering of the widow compared to others who were giving out of their richness but less about the purity of heart. Is very important to put our heart in everything we do or we offer because the intention and purity of our heart count more than the quantity we give out. Not because is bad to give much according to what we possess but the much we give should be blessed by the purity of our heart intention.

We need to accept Christ’s criteria of judging people: We often judge people by what they possess. We give weight to their position in society, to their educational qualifications, or their celebrity status. But Jesus measures us in a different way – on the basis of our inner motives and the intentions hidden behind our actions. He evaluates us on the basis of the sacrifices we make for others and on the degree of our surrender to His holy will. The offering God wants from us is not our material possessions, but our whole hearts and lives. May God through his holy spirit help us to serve him with all our heart and with the purity of mind.

Today we are celebrating the memorial of Saint Cecilia, Virgin and, Martyr, she was among the many Christians who suffered martyrdom in Rome during the second century. Her complete dedication to Christ and her endurance during tortures make her an outstanding witness of the Christian faith and an example for all to follow. She is the patron saint of musicians. May she intercede for us before our Lord Jesus Christ.
