Monday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time.
Heb. 11: 32-40
Mk 5:1-20
There are many people that we have encountered who are called Faith. And we expect that they must live by their name, Faith. Faith calls our attention to something supernatural.
In the first Reading, a letter to the Hebrews, we are given the assurance that Faith made the people of old do great things to glorify God. Some of the names mentioned are familiar and others are not. This goes to show that not all the great people in the bible stories are so familiar to all of us. The names mentioned include Gideon, Barak, Samson, Samuel and the prophets. These men by Faith conquered kingdoms. This story is shared with us today, to encourage us to stand strong in our own Faith, our faith in God. If the people of old were rewarded due to their faith, our faith will also yield results and reward.
In the gospel Jesus encounters demons and the demons negotiated with him to send them to the swine. If we have faith in God we can also command the demons of our lives to go away from us. The demons that make us not to get closer and closer to God, the demons that blind us from achieving what God wants us to achieve. If we have faith we can command them to leave us just as Jesus commanded the demons to leave the man possessed. Today command the demons of your life to depart from you. Lord increase my faith.
Amen.
